ALEXANDER POLLI – REAL EXTREME!
BASE jump is insanely interesting and exciting, but also extremely dangerous. Each of the basic jumpers risks taking another jump. Unfortunately, not everything goes according to plan, which leads to terrible consequences. This is exactly what happened to the famous young 31-year-old Alexander Polly, whose jump in the French Alps near Chamonix was the last fatal for him on August 22, 2016. How did he embark on this path and how did it all begin?
Alexander Polly, future pioneer of skydivers and skydivers, was born in Norway on June 26, 1985. Unfortunately, practically nothing is known about his childhood and youth, as well as about when he immediately began to practice ski jumping. But, of course, he became the most enthusiastic base jumper and wingsuit. He had dual citizenship – he was a citizen of both Norway and Italy.
The stunning wingsuit jumps he posted on his YouTube channel brought him fame. Wingsuit is specialized clothing with nylon membranes between the arms, legs and body. This design allows the pilot to soar and control the flight path. He recorded video during stunts using an action camera. The jumps were so impressive that they received millions of views on YouTube. This made Polly widely known not only among extreme people, but also among other people.
Perhaps the most famous and grandiose trick of Alexander Polly is a flight through Batman’s Cave. This is the name of a 2.5-meter gap in the rock of the Montserrat mountain range located in northern Spain. Earlier, having gained altitude and settled over the mountains in a helicopter, Alexander jumped and, having dispersed to 250 km / h, flew through a narrow arch in the mountains. He had no equipment except for a wingsuit and an action camera. This jump so stunned the audience that the video with its execution collected 3.1 million views in one week. According to Polly himself, with his trick, he also wanted to inspire other people to any unusual and crazy actions. And, of course, to raise the bar for their colleagues in extreme sports. By the way, the phrase “Batman’s Cave” is found just in the description of the video on YouTube. Obviously, Polly himself came up with such a name to make this place a geographical attraction.
Of course, such a trick implied preliminary preparation. Polly learned to knock down a predefined goal in wingsuit. For example, a banner with the inscription “2013”, which can be seen in the same video. Without such training, flying through Batman’s Cave can be fatal.
But the old woman with a scythe was waiting for the jumper in a completely different place. On Monday, August 22, 2016, Alexander Polly tried to make another grandiose jump on the side of Ensy, which is located in the French Alps near Chamonix. This place was already very popular among extreme people. It was also very dangerous for base jumpers. But Polly did not stop it. Unfortunately, Alexander Polly crashed into a tree during a flight. Mountain rescuers, who discovered his body, said that the base jumper died at the scene. The young man was 31 years old.
Wingsuit International League expressed deep condolences to the family and friends of Alexander Polly. Representatives of the league said that the whole world will miss his contagious laugh and inexhaustible energy. They also expressed confidence that, despite the tragedy, the legacy of Alexander Polly will inspire new generations of jumpers at the base for many years to come.
