MIKE LAROCCO – REAL EXTREME!

Until 2005, an athlete regularly took part in serious international motocross tournaments, whose name began to put pressure on opponents with before the start signal for the start of the competition. The riders on the iron horses were nervous not by chance. Their eminent neighbor in the upcoming race was none other than Stone Mike himself – he was Mike Larocco. And there was a very high probability that one of the prizes would necessarily remain with this illustrious discipline veteran.

He was born on February 12, 1971 in the city of Michigan city, Indiana, USA. Already in his teenage years, Mike absorbed a passion for motorcycles. That is what she swallowed, for everything else just lost all meaning for the young man. After unsuccessful attempts to switch the attention of the son to something not so extreme, the parents gave up. And, as it turned out, they were right! After all, if for other guys the motorcycle was a tool for reckless racing on night roads and riding pretty classmates, then Larocco sought to master the two-wheeled unit perfectly, to understand all its capabilities and connect to the car as a whole. The result of hard work made it clear to skeptics and everyone who believed in Mike – this one will get his way! The very first motocross competition at a professional level brings the 17-year-old Larokka third place, and most importantly – gives a chance to break into the world of big sport.

The following years, Mike appears under the banner of the Yamaha motorcycle brand, competing on challenging tracks in the 125 cc class. At some point, the guy stops working with the first team and leaves for Suzuki, with whom he worked even less. As a result, Larocco decides to embark on a “solo voyage”, while, however, agreeing not to neglect the support of the Honda team. In parallel with the search for priorities in his career, Mike is improving in the motorbike class, which in 1993 bears fruit in the 500cc Motocross Series. This first place becomes debut in the long list of victories of the tireless athlete.

On which routes only, and in which countries only, Larocco did not “light up”! It was not in vain that he was awarded several respectful nicknames at once – “Laroket” and “Stone” – any of his rivals could envy the endurance, strength and high degree of emotional self-control of this rider. The characteristic strategy of the Stone Mike, which he successfully and effectively applied during the competition, became known all over the world: Larocco almost never tried to be the leader of the race throughout its entire length, keeping himself in the shade, and only before the very end he quickly went into maximum acceleration literally breaking into the finish line.

The beginning of the 2000s is marked by the athlete’s bright victories: he becomes the first in the World Supercross Series and in 2002 takes the championship title at the major US Open Supercross Championships tournament. In 2005, Mike Larocco sums up his 18-year career, deciding not to race anymore. Perhaps, everyone could have gone on his place for a well-deserved rest – Larocco won the title of world champion in the length of his sports career and in the number of competitions where the motor of his bike roared. And such, for a minute, got as many as 214! Today, Stone Mike is trying to spend more time with his family, which he really missed, being in the saddle of a motorcycle. But, of course, he was not able to part with his favorite mechanism forever, so he found application of his own experience and knowledge in the Geico Honda team, where he works as a manager.
