JEREMY JONES – REAL EXTREME!

Jeremy Jones is a legend in the world of skateboarding, a man who managed to say a new word in skating on a snowy slope. One of the main promoters of freeriding is the descent along unprepared routes that are outside the service area of the ski industry. This requires tremendous skill from the athlete, and Jeremy certainly possesses such skill.

The future conqueror of huge peaks was born on January 14, 1975 on the island of Cape Cod, which is part of the US state of Massachusetts. Soon, the Jones family moved to Vermont, most of which is occupied by mountains (the name of the state comes from the French words “green” and “mountain”), which Jeremy himself was very happy about, constantly thinking that he now lives in the coolest place on our planet. However, acquaintance with snowboarding occurred a little later: after the next move, this time to the state of Maine, the boy finds himself in a ski resort.

9-year-old Jeremy becomes simply obsessed with a new hobby, in addition, his parents support the zeal of his son. As a result, some 5 years after the start of training, he signs a contract with the oldest French company specializing in the manufacture of skis, snowboards and related equipment, Rossignol. After a couple of years, 16-year-old Jeremy becomes a professional rider and begins to participate in world-class competitions.

After years of participating in the competition, however, Jeremy decides to quit professional sports and concentrates on skiing from the big mountains. The descent along unprepared tracks and the ascent to the snow-capped peaks (the so-called “backcountry”) really captivates the snowboarder. Over time, Jeremy has a circle of like-minded people like him, extreme sportsmen who got sick with freeriding. Jones cannot be called the first freerider in the world, nevertheless it was he who managed to make this area of snowboarding so popular.

Jeremy, as a fan of snow-related sports, has several times witnessed the negative impact of global warming on the environment: for several years in a row, snow simply did not fall in January at an altitude of 14,000 feet. These impressions prompted him to create a nonprofit public organization, Protect Our Winters, in 2007, whose main task is to combat the causes and consequences of global warming. The athlete takes the post of executive director in it and regularly speaks to Congress, highlighting environmental issues.

In 2009, the snowboarder terminated the contract with Rossignol and opened his own company, Jones Snowboards. The company is mainly engaged in the production of boards and equipment oriented to freeride and backcountry.

Special mention deserves the snowboard films that Jeremy makes. His most significant achievement in this field is the movie trilogy: “Deeper”, “Further” and “Higher”. The first film at one time simply blew up the snowboard community: in addition to gorgeous landscapes, dizzying slopes and insanely difficult climbs, Jeremy talks about the philosophy of freeriding, his attitude to the mountains, attracts the best snowboarders in the world and shows them skateboarding from a completely different perspective.

Jeremy Jones prefers to spend free time from social activities, filming movies and skating with his family. One of the most gifted snowboarders on the planet believes that communication with loved ones is still much more important than dizzying descents from the mountain peaks on the board.
