DAVID GOGGINS – REAL EXTREME!

People who have risen to riches, but do not consider themselves as such, always admire. David Goggins is one such prince. Runner, founder of a charity event, motivational speaker and writer.

Life “Before”

David was born on February 17, 1975. On his own initiative, he applied to the Air Force. Prior to this, having failed the ASVAB test twice, but later he was taken to the Air Force tactical control detachment. After serving there for some time, he left this special unit to transfer to the Fur Seals squad. However, he weighed a little more than 135 kg, they certainly would not have been taken. After 3 months, he lost weight to 86 kg. After three attempts to join, he was accepted in 2001. There he was sent to fight in Iraq, after he fought in Afghanistan. In 2004, the Army assigned him the name “The Most Valiant Man.” When a helicopter crashed during Operation Red Wings in 2005, only he survived from the whole team. After that, he finally left the troops. However, he could not forget about his team, David decided to go running, thus transferring money to the charity “Organization of Special Operation Troops”.

Before the race, he again weighed about 120 kg, having decided to prepare, he dropped to 80 kg.

Life of the Superman

In the same year, he joined the one-day ultra-marathon in San Diego. David ran 101 miles in 19 hours and 6 minutes, before that he had never participated in marathons before.

After the marathon, his words from the report scattered all over the Internet: “I will not stop if I’m tired, I will only stop if I am finished.” The day before the race, he trained his leg muscles to look more convincing. Then he was admitted to the Boston marathon, after in 2006 Goggins ran the Badwater-135 ultra-marathon. Three months later, he participated in the World Superman triathlon in Hawaii, where he finished second. It was especially surprising that he first competed in bicycles.

In 2007, he ran a dozen more marathons. In 2008, he was marked by the “Trail Winner” in the runner community.

World record

In September 2012, David decided to break the world record for the number of pull-ups in 24 hours. After 13.5 hours of pull-ups, its number gained 2588, which was slightly more than half the pull-ups of the world record. On an X-ray, an hour later, revealed a partial rupture of the tendon on the thumb. At this event, David raised $ 20,000 for a donation. A month later, he again decided to compete, this time he pulled himself up 3207 times in 12 hours. However, he was forced to stop due to pain in his left palm. In 2013, he achieved success. He performed 4030 pull-ups in 17 hours.

By this time, he had raised 300 thousand dollars, which was enough to pay colleges for more than 260 children.

David himself says the following about this:

“I’m not a fan of running, I don’t like to ride a bicycle, and I don’t even like to swim. I did all this just to make money. But now I am here and I want to find out how far I can go.”

Life “Now”

He had a personal blog for some time, but David chose to become more famous: he wrote the book “Can’t hurt me: Mind Your Mind and Defy the Odds” (“You Can’t Hurt Me: Manage Your Mind and Challenge Difficulties” ), unfortunately, the book has not yet been translated into Russian.

Goggins continues to win medals in races, triathlons and ultra-marathons. Throughout the world, thousands of his fans decide to train like him to overcome the inequalities of life. If he could alone, then they can. David Goggins is a symbol of victory in the struggle for helping the disadvantaged.
