DANNY MACASKILL – REAL EXTREME!
The beginning of the story of Danny begins in the town of Dunvegan, which is located on the Scottish island of Skye. Born December 23, 1985, a red-haired kid spent all his free time riding a bicycle since childhood, which later led him to work as a mechanic in an Edinburgh bike shop. According to Danny McAskill himself, after work, he rushed to study his strength, his bike and study the beauties of the capital’s street, while honing his unique style, mixing complicated tricks and a trial.
But it all paid off in 2009, when at the age of 23, Danny and his roommate Dave Sowerby, who was a cameraman, uploaded a five-minute video on youtube that actually showed the skill of controlling a bike to the band’s song “the funeral” Horses. ” Despite the fact that they worked on this video for almost six months, who would have thought that the next morning the guy would wake up as a star? The video went far beyond Scotland, gaining three hundred thousand views in just one night! And in the morning this video was on the main pages of YouTube and the BBC website. Professional riders left comments on this video clip, having noticed a serious competitor in Danny in the near future. Soon, articles about this skilled guy appeared in the New York Times and other major publications, after which the young street trial player was nominated for the National Geografic “Action Sportsperson of the Year” and “Adventurer of the Year Award” awards. At the moment, this video clip has collected more than 36 million views.
After the video where Danny McAskill made a name for himself, offers from a list of which he chose only two began to pour on his head en masse, signing a contract with Red Bull Media House and becoming a rider of the Inspired bicycles bike brand, on whose bicycles he and rode around. Refusing to work as a bicycle mechanic, the guy moved to Edinburgh, devoting all his free time to training.
A year later, Danny still with his cameraman and friend Dave Sowerby put on another video, but already under the control of “Red Bull Media House” under the name “way back home”, where the guy covered the path 270 miles from Edinburgh to his native town of Dunvegan . The route lay through all of Scotland, combining beautiful landscapes, including castles, old streets and, of course, brilliant stunts.
After another year, McAskill and his team are releasing another video clip called “Industrial revolutions”, shot already in the guy’s hometown, again reminding everyone why it became an icon of a street trial.
However, one of Danny McAskill’s more interesting projects is called “Imaginate” and the boundaries between illusion and reality are blurred from watching this project, because in the episodes he did not limit himself to beautiful landscapes and brilliant stunts, but he turned his childhood dreams into reality, rolling around his room among children’s toys that come to life in the frame, acquiring life-size.
Perhaps one of the main factors in the popularity of Danny McAskill is the unusually beautiful and bewitching locations that he demonstrates in each of his new videos. Each project of this guy is unique in his own way and excites the imagination of everyone who at least once looked at his projects. Epecuén, for example, was no exception when filmed in an Argentine ghost town called Epécuen.
One of the bike rider’s latest projects is called “The Ridge” and in it the guy travels through the Scottish mountains, but not on a trial bike familiar to everyone, but on a two-suspension Santa Cruz, which in no way prevented him from demonstrating his abilities and even showing how to combine trial with freeride. And at the moment he continues to delight fans with new projects, traveling and speaking in Europe with his team.
To all this, Danny wrote a terrific book called “Life-affirming book on how to do only what you want and get rich”, thereby showing that in addition to professionalism in the trial, he is not afraid to do something completely new and different.
