LUKE AIKINS – REAL EXTREME!

Luke Aykins went down in history as the first person to jump from a height of 7,600 meters without insurance. The parachutist-record holder devoted 30 years of his life to air, one day to show the world that the impossible is possible and become an inspiration for a thousand enthusiasts, as he once was.

Biography

Luke Aykins was born November 21, 1973 on the Gulf of Mexico in the touristic city of Corpus Christi, Texas. In the family of third-generation paratroopers, almost everyone was involved in air sports. Mother, father, uncle and aunt are titled athletes with their own school and teaching methods. The childhood idol of the future extremal was Joseph Kittinger, who set a world record by parachuting from a height of 31,300 meters on August 16, 1960. The future of the boy was predetermined. The first jump in tandem Luke made at the age of 12 years. And at 16, he received permission from his parents to be independent. Since then, Luke Aykins only improved his skills and complicated tricks. Today he is a member of the elite team of skydivers Red Bull Air Force and takes part in the most significant events of the organization. Luke Aykins also runs his own school of air sports, trains the special forces of the US Special Forces, is a consultant in the development of the world’s most difficult air jumps, and also works as a stunt performer and movie stunt director. He is married and has a son.

Jump into history

On July 30, 2016, in a desert in southern California, Luke Aykins jumped from a light-engine aircraft from an altitude of 7,600 meters without a parachute. To capture the whole process and ensure safety, he was accompanied by 3 specialists: with a camera, an oxygen cylinder and a smoke bomb to maintain visibility. At around 10,000 meters, they opened their parachutes, and the skydiver continued to fly alone. The free fall rate was about 53 m / s. A few seconds before the landing, Luke flipped from the belly to the back, grouped and successfully completed the jump.

The duration of the fall was about two and a half minutes. The main task was to get exactly into the grid measuring 30X30 meters, stretched to the height of a twenty-story building. From an airplane, it looks like a regular black dot. It is believed that such a landing accuracy even from a mark of 4000 meters is the result of hard physical work and complicated calculations. What Aikins and his team did is an absolutely exceptional and fantastic result. Immediately after a successful landing, a skydiver said that two years ago he considered this trick a crazy adventure and refused. But once, admitting the idea that it was still possible, he could not stop. Later, Luke has repeatedly stated that science and accurate calculation are the main criteria for its success.

Interesting Facts

– Luke Aykins made 18,000 jumps and in only 30 cases used a reserve parachute. He is one of the most experienced paratroopers in the world.

– Extreme acted as a consultant in staging the stunt of another famous athlete Felix Baumgartner, who jumped with a parachute from a height of 38,900 meters.

– Aikins participated in the filming of the action movie “Iron Man 3” as a stuntman.

– Initially, it was planned that Aikins would have a parachute for safety, but the athlete refused this idea, since in this case the weight increased significantly, and this was a significant obstacle to the successful completion of a jump from a record height.

– The jump from 7600 meters was broadcast live on the Fox channel.
