JEB CORLISS – REAL EXTREME!

Among the people who dreamed of learning to fly, it is worth mentioning the American Jeb Corliss. From his own words, he dreamed of flying as a child, at the age of six, when he watched the birds take off from the wires. It was then that he firmly declared to his aunt that he would definitely learn to fly.
Jeb’s family lived in the United States in New Mexico. The future skydiver changed schools one after another. Because of this, he was constantly a stranger among the rest of the children, this taught him to fight fear. His childhood was full of travels to India and Afghanistan due to the fact that his parents were antique dealers. Jeb’s favorites were scorpions, tarantulas, and even rattlesnakes. He often dragged them to his home.

At age 20, Jeb Corliss first tried base jumping. He really liked it, in this lesson he saw the meaning of his existence. Over time, he began to work on increasing the complexity of jumps and changing the flight path. He also began to increase the difficulty levels of objects. Such a pastime made Jeb Corliss happy.
At the moment, the 43-year-old extreme has made more than a thousand jumps of varying difficulty on 5 different continents. Nicknames “crazy flyer”, “Batman”, “black beiser” – all this is about Jeb Corliss. Wingsuit costume, with which he goes on a flight, has long been an integral part of his life.

But Korless gained fame not only as a “human-bat”, but also as a great prankster and troublemaker. He often gets into unpleasant stories and deals with the police. For example, in 2006, Corlissa was detained by the police when he was preparing to jump from the famous Empire State Building. Jeb is sure that it is impossible for him to avoid such unwanted attention from the outside, because he commits acts that are considered either impossible in the eyes of ordinary people, or violating public order. Simply put, skydiving for a long time will cause reproaches and seem completely pointless and unreasonably dangerous occupation in the opinion of an ordinary person. And this is absolutely explainable and, in general, understandable. Corliss excited the whole world and thoroughly tickled people’s nerves when he carried out extremely extreme projects in China. We are talking about a passage through a very narrow cave in Mount Tienmen, as well as a similar passage in the cave of the Khianlang rock.

Corliss challenges himself every time he concocts a new project. He tries all the time to complicate the flights and add entertainment, so as not to stand still. But this does not mean that he is acting recklessly. Jeb scrupulously ponders the flight at every stage and tries not to miss a single detail that could cost him his life. Wingsuit cannot do without such a suit. This is a special clothing that has nylon membranes between the limbs and the body, which allows a person to control the flight and control it during planning, like a flying squirrel. For every 3 meters that the pilot is moving forward, there is a 1 meter drop.

Landing is carried out using a parachute.
Corliss wanted to land without a parachute. He even accepted attempts to design a landing ramp. But he was ahead of Gary Connery, a skydiver from the UK, who landed elementarily on a pile of cardboard boxes.
Lives in California. Due to police surveillance of Jeb and the actual ban on base jumping in the United States, Corliss is trying to conduct his flights outside of them. That he, in general, perfectly succeeds. The Eiffel Tower in Paris, the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Petronas in Kuala Lumpur – all this base jumper did not pass by.
