Everything here is accompanied with detailed, hands on, close up video showing topic discussed in video. Also a lot of Your Perspective from Helmet Cam and In flight viewing of others. It’s all video. No fillers. Once made, it was almost 2 hours. Trimmed down to pure information. All info! No filler!

I. (Brief 30 sec intro motivation video to show what it’s all about). This video intended to answer any questions you might have of Powered-paragliding.   Not a substitute for the course!

II. Why a PPM course &. What is in course?

    1. Saves you time, effort, money.
    2. Technique to launch and landing. Many people get frustrated and leave before they start.
    3. What is in course
      1. Ground handling (showing for both Foreword and reverse launch)
      2.    Tows line up with wench & trained instructor (also with helmet cam view)
      3.    solo flights with instructor radio communication
      4.    Communication of experience with others that are there.
      5.    Towing: Lock out Danger! Over fly tow point, Simple yet Deadly without a professional.

III. What is powered paragliding

    1. Backpack powered paraglider.
    2. Lightest, cheapest, safest, most compact, most versatile aircraft.
    3. PPG vs. PPC. Not to be confused!

IV. Anatomy of a paraglider.

    1. Carabineers, riser lines, A,B,C, &brake – lines. Leading edge. Trailing edge,
    2. Ram-air, 0-perosity, rip stop nylon, cells, ridges with holes to equal out psi.
    3. Motor: harness/seat, cage, hand throttle.

V. Pre flight inspection

    1. Wing, motor, & harness.
    2. According to owners manual
    3. What to look for in preflight.

VI. How it launches

    1. Always into wind
    2. Foreword launch For winds generally < 5-7 mph.
    3. Reverse launch For winds generally > 5-7 mph.
    4. Don’t lift feet, don’t hop, and keep landing gear running!

VII. Flight. Easiest of all

    1. Psychological equation = feel safer near ground
    2. Physiological equation (reality)= you are safer up higher from ground.
    3. Don’t fly low over water! Weight of motor, plastic material, lines. Water landing!

VIII. Landing.

    1. Always into wind.
    2. Brake lines are as buffer. Watch horizon to judge distance
    3. 150% surface area lift compared to parachute = soft, soft landing!

IV. Breakdown

    1. Motors generally break down into carrying case in < 10 min. (accelerated video of breakdown of unit)
    2. Wings (paraglider)
    3. Folding: Dry, Fewest folds (wrinkles), line ends out of lines.
    4. Types of folds: standard, accordion (1&2 man), roll, field carry (all shown hands on)

X. How safe is it?

    1. Safety in wing. Not in motor. Glider first! Can use wing only!
    2. weight rating x 8, Testing-AFNOR & DHV Standard, performance, competition
    3. Parachute vs. PPG misconceptions and comparison.
    4. Ever injuries? Paragliding, mountain valleys.
    5. Reserve chutes are available and recommended.

XI. Rules, regs & things to consider.

    1. FAA part 103(for ultralights). Internet link shown here. Not: Night, airport, large population.
    2. Can’t fly through down town, but cant 100% comply with all laws

XII. What to consider when buying

    1. Many different motors & wings each with pros and cons. Paragliders personality (Compare motors from many at New Smyrna bch video.)
    2. Motor things to look for and why!: Tuned exhaust, noise, Centrifugal clutch, Starter. Weight shift. comfort. reduction gear, cage, weight, thrust/weight
    3. Don’t try to build your own motor. (really is more to it than you think)
    4. Wing AFNOR, DHV rating and ease of launch.

XIII. Other FAQ’s

    1. Licensee required
    2. Cost motor $4,500 – 7,000, wing 2,000 – 4,000
    3. Can you rent them. But tandem! (shown in video)
    4. What wind needed Wind: 0 to 15/20mph
    5. Time in flight: 1-3 hrs or more
    6. Wt motor paralite’s Sky cruiser at 45 pounds, or monster at 79lbs
    7. Noise: What noise means to you, crowds, music, communications.
    8. Travel distance. Like windsurfing or jet ski travel. But ~20mph +/- wind speed
    9. How high: 13,000 ft. (my video from 8,000 ft.)
    10. Reserve chute!
