Three Basic FAA rules: 1) Not at night. 2) Not over a large population of people (they decide if it was actually large or not). 3) Not within 5 miles of airport. Unless you have permission from tower by calling first. To get more specific, get it directly from: Federal Aviation Regulations. part 103 (regulating ultra light vehicles) There are also city ordinances to be aware of, such as "no motorized vehicles on the beach" intended for jet-skis, but applies towards us ultra lighters with motors. There are many others and disrupting the peace, too loud, trespassing, etc. Key concept to grasp: If you were to ask, "Where can you legally ride a paramotor?" It is the same as if you were to ask, "Where can you legally ride a dirt bike?" another words, "Where are you legally allowed to ride a dirt bike?" the answer is, only on your own property that you own. Cant even ride in the woods because the city or state owns it and is legally liable if you get hurt. Yet they still sell them and people ride them everywhere. So, Its the same with paramotors. So long as you dont piss off anyone, or annoy anyone, youll be fine. If ole gray hair doesnt think you should have flown so close to the condo, hell call the cops and they will chase you off, if not also fine you and call the FAA. The FAA guys really dont take too warmly to us either! Were not real pilots, and have no business flying without having FAA license (not required for ultra lights). And when you meet one .it wont be pleasant Ive heard. They have their own lofty fines and likely can and will take your craft (paramotor). Bottom line: stay away from people & buildings, dont cause a scene (accident, emergency landing, or injury), dont piss off anyone, and youll be fine. Otherwise be careful. |
